Collaboration, inclusion and sharing of expertise amongst clinicians and scientists are of key importance in shortening the diagnostic odyssey of rare disease patients.
These core values, combined with access to the required resources and infrastructure, are central to establishing a culture in Nngwe that will serve the interests of rare disease patients.
Very often, information is not shared despite an ongoing diagnostic odyssey.
While ethics standards and the POPIA act prevents unconsented sharing of information, clinicians and scientists are also frequently reluctant to do so because of competing self-interests.
Nngwe request of participants to reprioritise in order to ensure that the interest of the patient, other patients in society and future patients and their families, take precedence over and above other interests.

I pledge my commitment to Nngwe by agreeing to the following:
I will promote participation in the Nngwe project to rare undiagnosed patients when it is in the best interest of the patient to do so. I will fully inform patients and caregivers about the risks and benefits of this project, ensure they understand it is voluntary and assist in obtaining informed consent.
I will submit all clinical information and generated data promptly to the Nngwe data repository, ensuring compliance with the maximum timeframe set by Nngwe, which may be subject to periodic amendments.
I will promote inclusivity rather than exclusivity by seeking collaboration with other members who have taken the Nngwe pledge and who contribute their expertise in the diagnostic process.
I will respect the clinical information, data, insights and intellectual property of fellow members, refraining from attempting to claim credit that is not justifiable.
By signing this pledge, I demonstrate my dedication to fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, inclusion, and ethicalconduct within the Nngwe community. I believe that together, we can shorten the diagnostic odyssey of rare undiagnosed diseasepatients.
